Seasonal Weather Koh TaoThe low tourist season months in Thailand are the wet monsoon season
months from May to September but there is less rain in the "Gulf
of Thailand" islands such as Koh Tao and conveniently when it did
rain is was mostly at night. Yes it is humid then but that's great when
SCUBA diving, snorkelling, enjoying a cold drink, having a 200 baht
massage, or lounging near a resort swimming pool. SCUBA diving
businesses operate all months. Some have a holiday in the month of
November
when the water is a bit turbid. Koh Tao monthly temperature ranges only slight from 28 to 32 degrees celcious throughout the year. Koh Tao TransportSchedualed Gulf of Thailand ferries transport interisland passengers south to nearby Koh Phangan and north to Chomporn via Nuang Yuan islet. Chompornis the main transit port for ferry passengers to and from Bangkok. Solar Air and Happy Air fly to Chomporn from Bangkok. Travel agent signs on Koh Tao advertise "Joint Tickets" which are not for reefers but rather combination travel tickets for Koh Tao boat bus plane train Koh Tao transport. The big two passenger ferry company brand names are "Lomprayah" and "Sea Train" Save a 200 baht agent's commission by buying boat tickets directly from boat ferry ticket sales offices right at the harbour. Sea Train's ticket office is at the end of the northern harbour pier. Hire motorbikes (scooters actually) start at 120
baht per day but you'd need to search for this hire bike price away from
tourist areas. Trail bikes up to 250cc are also for hire. Longtail boats / taxi boats are a transport option on Koh Tao to transport you to and from your hotel to island beaches and dive sites. SCUBA DIVINGKoh Tao is a good warm water place to lean to SCUBA dive. SCUBA dive centres / shops are on every corner and have agents in every hotel. You'll see SCUBA diving students in hotel swimming pools and in shallow sea water near Sairee Beach. PADI dive courses are offered by many dive training centres. If your partner is a SCUBA diver and you're not, you can still go out on a dive boat and enjoy snorkelling near Koh Tao and Nuang Yuan islands. |
