Transportation Established in 1879, Emerald is located on the Nogoa River 263 km west of Rockhampton and 909 km from Brisbane (via Rockhampton). The Central Highlands region has a rich tapestry of historic features and has an ever increasing focus as the central hub for the Bowen Basin, a world renowned coal mining region.
